The Carol M. Porto Treatment Center is a state-certified residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment program for adults 18 and older. Residents can remain for as long as needed with minimum length of stay being 28 days.
History
The Carol M. Porto Treatment Center offers a program that was originally established in 1985. Initially, the program was designed for DWI offenders but was later expanded to treat both alcohol and other drug problems for any adult who is medically and psychologically stable.

Residential vs. Outpatient
Adults having problems with alcohol and other drug use are most often treated in outpatient programs. However, some have tried outpatient to no avail; others know they would not be able to address their addiction except in residential care. Our residential treatment has a very high impact with daily contact in the short term, where outpatient tends to address the problem in once weekly sessions.

How We’re Different
The Center differs from other similar treatment programs in four ways:
1. The treatment team are all seasoned, graduate-level, certified and/or licensed clinicians.
2. The model is broad (bio-psycho-social) and evidence-based.
3. State-wide evaluation studies show it has the highest success rate for clients completing the entire 28 days compared to other programs like it.
4. There is a work therapy component for those who would otherwise lose their jobs if they entered residential treatment.
5. We treat mental health problems if they co-occur with addiction.
6. We treat those addicted to gambling.
7. For those concerned about the impact on their use of alcohol and other drugs on their brain, we conduct neuropsychological testing.
